You may have never heard of affiliate marketing, but many bloggers are earning hundreds (even thousands) of dollars every month all from affiliate marketing. As more companies try to increase their sales, there will be more opportunities for you to earn money as an influencer, so today I’m starting an affiliate marketing series to share everything that I have learned about affiliate marketing over the years! Yeah!!! This will be a 3-part series where I discuss the ins and outs of how to get started with affiliate marketing on your blog and social media platforms.
I have done quite well with affiliate marketing, and now I am here to spill the tea! Affiliate Marketing is not just about throwing links up on your blog and social media platforms. The most important part of affiliate marketing strategy and creating quality content for your audience. If you are not posting consistently on your blog you are not ready for affiliate marketing, but you can get there.
It is also important not to get discouraged if you do not start seeing results right away when you first get started. When I first started marketing affiliate products, it took me about a year to figure out strategies that would help me earn more income. I think it is a great place to start because sponsored posts are not always easy to find when you are a new blogger.
What Is Affiliate Marketing?
Before we get into why affiliate marketing is a great way to start monetizing your blog, let’s talk about what it is. Many brands have affiliate programs. When you sign-up to become an affiliate of a company you get a unique tracking link, called a cookie, that will give you a commission if you can generate a purchase, traffic, or leads.
Now, let’s be clear! Affiliate marketing is not a quick get-rich scheme. You will probably never get rich from it, but it is a way to earn a little extra income that you can invest back into your blog or put into your savings account. I will only be teaching you the basics, but you will learn enough to get started after you have completed the series.
There are many types of affiliate programs that you can apply for, which we will discuss in Part 2 of the series.
Who Can Participate In Affiliate Marketing?
Anyone! You don’t even need a blog to get started with affiliate marketing, but it is a good tool to use for increased earnings. This series will teach you how anyone who is willing to work hard can build a recurring stream of income every month!
Why Should You Try Affiliate Marketing?
1) It can be done without massive page views to your blog.
If you have a focused niche with a very targeted audience, lots of page views are not necessary to make sales via affiliate marketing. Your commission is not based on page views, it’s based on sales. If you are promoting a product that people are actually interested in you can do well with a small targeted audience.
2) Passive Income
There is a lot of talk about passive income in the online space, but I will go ahead and tell you that passive income is not doing absolutely nothing, while money drops from the sky. Passive income is when you put the work in at the forefront, which allows you to continue to make money from what has already been created. This takes hard work and dedication! Youtube is a form of passive income for me because I continue to earn with ads, even after I have completed the video. You can do the same thing with affiliate marketing.
3) You don’t have to create your own product or service.
Creating products and services is a great way to turn your blog into a business, but when you are first starting this can take a lot of time. Affiliate marketing allows you to start sharing products that you already love, while you start earning a few dollars in commission sales.
4) You can use multiple affiliate programs within your niche.
There are so many brands that you can become an affiliate for, depending on your blogging niche. You have the option to pick products from different companies that will work for your demographic. Keep in mind that requirements and commissions will vary based on the company.
5) It’s a short learning curve.
When you become an affiliate for a brand all of the marketing materials that you need such as banners, short links, HTML codes, and other things are provided to you. You do not have to create anything!
So are you convinced yet? If so, stay tuned for part two of this series where I discuss my favorite affiliate programs and give you some strategies on how to get started.
